Frequently Asked Questions
Where's my license?
Your license will be emailed to you as soon as your transaction clears. This usually happens immediately upon completing the purchase. Please check your spam folder if you don't receive it shortly after ordering. The registration email being incorrectly marked as spam is the most common reason why licenses are not received. Please contact support if you spam folder does not contain it.
I got the email, how do I register?
Simply copy and paste your licensee name and serial number into the appropriate fields.
I'm getting errors when I try to register, what do I do?
Something may have been corrupted with your download. Try completely deletingRivet off your machine, and reinstalling a fresh copy from our website. Carefully copy and paste your name AND registration code from the purchase receipt. Make sure there are no extra spaces attached at the end of either field. Contact support if you still have problems.
Why does the Rivet icon stay red?
The most common cause of the icon staying red is having either EyeConnect or the sharing feature for an EyeTV on. Both are known to conflict with Rivet's network connection. Stopping them and then relaunching Rivet corrects the issue in most cases.
Can I connect my Mac directly to my Xbox?
No, this configuration is not supported. A router is required to sit between the two devices to help negotiate the connection.
How do I use Rivet with my Xbox 360?
On your Mac, simply launch Rivet. Once its icon turns black you're all set. On your Xbox 360 go to the "My Xbox" row and select one of the media items to go into that media section. You will then be presented with a list of available media sources like the hard drive and DVD drive. Near the bottom of the list you should have an item called <your mac> : Rivet. Select it. Your Xbox will then display the media being shared from your Mac with Rivet.
My Xbox 360 tells me an MP3 or other supported music file that is in iTunes can not be played?
This is usually caused when you have moved your library to another hard drive. The iTunes library has not been fully updated yet and is still telling Rivet the files are at the old location. In iTunes select the Add to Library option under the File menu and then selecting the new location should cause the library to be rebuilt and cause the files to play correctly.
How do I use a custom thumbnail for a movie?
If the movie file has a custom icon, it will be used instead of generating a thumbnail with QuickLook. To set a custom icon, first Get Info on the file in the Finder. Next copy the image that you want to use onto the clipboard (Edit->Copy). Finally, select the icon in the upper left corner of the Get Info pane and paste (Edit->Paste) to replace the current icon with the one you copied. Rivet will not use it instead of the QuickLook thumbnail.
I added a custom icon, but it doesn't appear. Why does the QuickLook one still show up instead of it?
To improve performance Rivet caches the thumbnail icons after they're generated. The cache is the first place Rivet looks when asked for an item's thumbnail. If the thumbnail had been generated and cached before you added the custom icon, then it will still be used. You can delete the cached items to force Rivet to reload them. The cache is located at ~/Library/Application Support/Rivet/thumbnails/ and it is safe to delete it or items out of it while Rivet is running.
